When London’s churchyards filled up, just as a young Queen Victoria came to the throne, a scheme was launched to build The Magnificent Seven – huge, modern cemeteries in a ring around the City. Enjoy a Fish ‘n’ Chip lunch with coffee/tea before meeting London’s famous dead in this Victorian Valhalla. You will be taken on a guided tour of the grand Victorian funerary architecture and notable graves in the West Cemetery and have free time to explore the East Cemetery where you will find other notable graves including Karl Marx. As soon as it opened in 1839 Highgate Cemetery in the Northern hills became the place to be buried if you were rich or famous.

By ferry from Portsmouth to Fishbourne, we begin with a drive over Brading Down to Shanklin with its old village and Chine with free time to browse and obtain lunch. We rejoin the coach for a scenic drive passing through Godshill and then along the coast to Freshwater Bay and Yarmouth, pausing for refreshments along the way before boarding the return ferry to Lymington.
